Through the years, PDI has become known for very solid targeting of likely voters using a number of variables, most notably vote history. The PDI voter file, unlike any other public or private file in the country, combines thousands of statewide and local elections from across 58 counties.
The overall enthusiasm within the electorate is the most important driving factor in turnout. But no matter if enthusiasm is high or low, the mechanics of the process do make some voters more or less likely to cast a ballot.
For many campaigns and consultants the most time consuming part of a mail program is the bickering back and forth about wording and pictures. Is it “back and forth” or “back-and-forth”? Does that Question Mark go inside the quotations?
As campaigns get more refined we find other characteristics, like Renters versus Homeowners, people who live alone versus those who live with others, these also matter in determining turnout. And these Household Type measures have different impacts in high and low turnout elections.
